Obituary for Ronald D. Gallaher

Ron passed away peacefully on September 15, 2017 in Walnut Creek with his wife & son by his side. He suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for many years. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, children David (Spring), Tim (Lynn), Nancy, Patrick (Nicole), grandchildren Paul, Nick, Catherine, Robbie, Timothy, Taylor & Emmerson & nieces Patricia Doyle & Danita Carlson & nephew John Carriger. He is also survived by Gary & Greta Carriger. He was predeceased by his parents and his younger sister Janet Doyle.

Ron was born in Pasadena, Ca. to Harry & Opal Gallaher on February 24, 1933. He grew up in Pasadena where he graduated from John Muir High School and went on to graduate from John Muir Jr. College where he met his future wife, Phyllis. They were married in 1955. While attending UCLA he was drafted into the Navy in 1955.

After discharge from the Navy Ron completed his education at UCLA. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1958. Ron began his career with the city of Pasadena as a Jr. Personnel Technician. He soon moved on to the city of Fullerton, Ca. where he eventually became the Personnel Director. In 1969 Ron came to Walnut Creek to become the first Personnel Director for the city of Walnut Creek. He went on to work for the cities of Fremont & Livermore where he retired after 37 years working for Municipalities. He was active in City & State organizations during his career. He served as the League of California Cities representative to the Cal Pers Public Agency Coalition.

Ron was also active helping to coach his children's various athletic teams. He served as co-president of Walnut Heights & Las Lomas parent groups & president of the Citizens Coordination Council for the Walnut Creek Elementary School District.

Ron loved big band music & radio shows from the 30's & 40's & enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing. He had a wicked sense of humor but was a friend to all & would go out of his way to help them.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Live Oak Chapel, 200 E. Duarte Road, Monrovia, Ca., 91016.
