Obituary for Robert Reynolds

Robert “Bob” Vernon Reynolds was born in Fresno, California, on September 20, 1921, of Harold Vernon Reynolds and Ruth Elmore Reynolds. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and studied at Fresno State College for two years. In 1940 he transferred to U.C. Berkeley where in one year he completed a B.S. degree in pre-dentistry.

Bob married his Fresno sweetheart Elizabeth “Betty” Sue James in 1943 while enrolled in U.C. San Francisco Dental School. Upon graduation he was inducted into the Army and given orders to report for duty at the V.A. Hospital, Ft. Miley, S.F. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he practiced dentistry for almost forty years in Oakland and Berkeley until retirement in 1983. He and his wife raised three children in Orinda. Family outings to the beach sparked an interest in rock hounding which continued after retirement into cutting, polishing, and tumbling rocks for jewelry-making as well as beautiful table tops. A love of classical music began early in life with piano and violin lessons. As a young man he played the violin with the Fresno City Symphony, a string quartet and the U.C. Berkeley Symphony. Backpacking, golfing, and bird watching rounded out his many years of active living.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Philip and John. He is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Jeanne (Douglas Rich), sons James (Cindy) and John (Roxie), six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
