Obituary for Mary Staudt

Mary Adelaide Staudt passed away May 16 at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek. She was the fifth of seven children born to Margaret and Eljyjagg Staudt, parents she deeply loved and admired.

Mary was an intelligent, sensitive and shy spirit, very interested in events around her. She took an early interest in writing and journalism. She completed her Associate of Arts degree at Diablo Valley College, afterwards attending Chico State University. She then returned to home life where she worked, enjoyed self-study and became certified to work as a substitute teacher. Mary was a talented piano player and perfected her playing to the delight of others, especially her father. She enlisted and served in the United States Army, after which she obtained a paralegal degree in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She also spent some time in Arizona before ultimately returning to Walnut Creek, where she resided until her passing. Mary loved and craved warm weather, current events, swimming, creativity and good intelligent debate.

Mary was bright and clever and will be missed for her unique and special qualities. She was curious about the world around her. Mary was a sports fan, enjoying attending San Francisco Giants games and would frequently ask her brothers about sports, particularly baseball. Her sister Katherine and their mother became particularly close to Mary, referring to her as "Fair Mare", a reference to her blond hair and fair looks. Mary was a person on your side in the rough-and-tumble universe who was extremely sharp, aware of her surroundings, on the look out - your genuine navigator and co-pilot in all ways. She had an infectious laugh, and could make others laugh - her sharp memory was impressive to all. Her sister Katherine was uniquely close to Mary, and will deeply miss her input, presence, companionship and sharing and reflecting on life's events and memories. It is certain that angels in heaven surround Mary to fully attend to her and offer all that she deserved on earth.

Mary will be greatly missed by all her siblings as well as others who got to know her. Besides her sister Katherine, Mary is also survived by her older siblings Virginia Faber of Hastings, New York; Martha Ring of New York City; John Staudt of Pleasant Hill, Ca; Richard Staudt of Walnut Creek, Ca. and her younger brother Robert of Aptos, Ca.
