Obituary for Jean Doolin

Jean passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Walnut Creek, January 13. Jean was born in Oakland the daughter of Edith and Chester Prouty. She attended Piedmont High School and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. She was a lifelong Alpha Delta Pi enjoying her sorority sisters throughout life. Jean was an airline stewardess for United when she met her husband, Dick skiing at Mt. Rose. They married in 1947 and raised their four children in Walnut Creek. They loved their cabin at Lake Tahoe which holds happy memories of skiing, boating, hiking and entertaining friends and family. Jean returned to school receiving her Masters and teaching credential from Holy Names College. She taught school for over 25 years taking great pleasure in teaching her students to read. She was an avid bridge player, loved her garden, walking and travelling extensively throughout the US, Australia, Mexico, Canada and Europe. She was active in many organizations, most notably her Mt. Diablo Phoenix Group. She was a friend to many and a loving devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and wife.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) Doolin, in 1989 after 39 years of marriage, and her granddaughter Breanne Davilla. Jean is survived by her children Marilee (Bill) Davilla, Corey Doolin, Connie Doolin, Cindy (Wes) Ferguson. Grandchildren Justin (Kristy) Davilla, Brian (Marina) Davilla, Kevin Ferguson, Laurel Ferguson and Erika Ferguson. Great Grandchildren Cole, Aubrey and Noelle. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Karr, brother Ken (Marty) Prouty and many nieces and nephews.

Interment will be private. The family invites friends to Jean’s home in Walnut Creek at 2pm February 3 to share memories. A Celebration of Life is planned for the family this summer at Lake Tahoe. Donations may be made to the organization of your choice.
