Obituary for Jane Hufft

Jane passed away from cancer peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 30, 2018. Born on August 21, 1943, Jane lived nearly all her life in Lafayette, CA with her husband of 49 years, Ronald Hufft. Jane devoted her life to helping children achieve their educational goals. She was an educator for 40 years, working as a teacher and elementary school principal for the last ten years of her career in Martinez, CA before becoming a court appointed special advocate for children in the foster care system. Her impact in education was recognized by President George W. Bush, the State of California, and the thousands of students whose lives she personally influenced. An avid genealogist and quilter, Jane served as Editor of the California Nugget, published by the California Genealogical Society, and her quilts hung in several Bay Area shows. Jane was a loving and devoted mother, wife and friend who will be remembered for her cheerfulness, resilience, and compassion. Jane is survived by her husband Ron; daughter Amy Hufft Abbott, son Brian Hufft, granddaughters Edith Hufft and Zoe Abbott, grandson Adam Hufft, and many loving relatives and friends. A memorial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29 at the Lafayette Veteran's Memorial Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willamette University's Jane W. Hufft Scholarship Fund, established by her family in 2017 to ensure students facing adversity can complete their education and live lives of contribution and meaning (
