Obituary for Genevieve Smith

Genevieve (Gen) Smith entered Heaven’s Gates on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. She died peacefully at her Orinda home from a short illness. Genevieve was born in Anaconda, MT to the late Frank & Margaret Muster on July 19, 1920 and resided there until she married her high school sweetheart, Roy (Smitty) Smith. In 1943, the loving couple along with daughter, Marilyn, relocated to San Francisco, CA. While Smitty was serving in the Army, Gen worked for Southern Pacific for a short period of time. Due to her flair in fashion, she was approached to take a position as a Personal Shopper for Ransohoffs, SF. She remained in the fashion business until she retired in 1962. In 1966, Gen, Smitty and 2nd daughter, Gayle, moved to Orinda. Gen became an active member of the Orinda Newcomers, the St. Mary‘s Guild, the St. Monica’s Guild and the Sandpipers. She was passionate about playing bridge which is why she joined 3 bridge groups. Gen was also an avid sports fan. She enjoyed attending the Stanford games & enjoyed making her ‘famous’ chili for the tailgating gang. Also, she loved to watch all sports on TV. One of Gen’s most enjoyable times was traveling with her brother, Bill Muster. They journeyed to 8 countries and enjoyed 2 cruises. Her life was blessed with many dear, long-time friends as a result of her involvement in all the above activities. She truly LOVED the life she lived and LIVED the life she loved. Genevieve is survived by her 2 daughters, Marilyn and Gayle, her grandson, Jon and her ‘best’ friend and brother, Bill. In addition, she is survived by her granddaughter-in-law, Tabitha along with 3 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Josh and Haley and her nephews, Clay, Brad and Stan. The family would like to thank Gen’s caregiver, Sara, for all the love and kindness she bestowed upon Gen’s care. Gen is predeceased by her beloved husband, Roy (Smitty), her brother, Bob, sister-in-law, Loretta, nephew, Curt and son-in-law, Emory.
