Obituary for Faustina C. Mazzetti

On Sunday, September 10, 2017 Faustina Caroline Mazzetti passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home in Walnut Creek, CA. Faustina, also known fondly as Coach, Nonnie, and Ziza, was born on August 10, 1925 in Kingsburg, California to immigrant Italian parents, Linda (Quadrelli) Franchini (deceased in 1983) and Pietro Franchini (deceased in 1934). Faustina lived in Kingsburg until the untimely and tragic deaths of her brother, Natalino (deceased in 1933) and father. She and her mother lived in various locations from ages 9-12 until they settled in the Santa Cruz, CA community making this her home from the age of 12-32. She attended and graduated from Holy Cross Catholic High School. She worked at Camp McQuaide in Capitola, CA during World War II and then in customer service for the launch of the new dial phones at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company. At age 28, she married Egidio Louis Mazzetti on May 24, 1953. They continued to reside in Santa Cruz but also lived in Dinuba, CA and Fresno, CA before making Walnut Creek, CA their home in 1966. She was a busy and caring homemaker and helped to care for both her mother and father in law along with her three children. She was an active board member of the Italian Catholic Federation in Walnut Creek. She was best known for her hospitality, and loved having friends and family at the table for her famous Italian dinners. Later in life, after her own children were grown, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and the children of other friends and family, and was excited and passionate to be a caregiver as well as Nonnie to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also volunteered at the Dean Lesher Center in Walnut Creek, CA. At age 80 she survived a massive stoke, and learned to find peace and joy as she had to slow down her pace and let others become the caregivers. Along with her mother, father and brother, she is preceded in death by her husband, Egidio Louis “Chick” Mazzetti in 1996 and grandson, Daniel Mazzetti in 2013. She is survived by her three children, Linda Mazzetti Schuler (Ken), Richard Mazzetti (Abby), and Michael Mazzetti. Six grandchildren, Christina Schuler Henricksen (Erik), Stephanie Schuler Koenig (Justin), Erika Schuler, David Mazzetti (Katie), Derek Mazzetti (Chelsea), Dana Mazzetti, and two great-grandsons, Benjamin and Nicholas Hendricksen and she was thrilled to know of another great- grandson expected in January 2018, Jackson Louis Koenig. She was loved and will be missed, but forever in the hearts of her family and friends. A Rosary is planned for Sunday, September 17 at Hull’s Mortuary Walnut Creek, CA at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass and reception to follow will be Monday, September 18 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Walnut Creek, CA at 10:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Santa Cruz, CA at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
