Obituary for Elizabeth Smith

Age 87, of Walnut Creek, CA passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home February 2, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Oakland, CA to the late Lena and Felice Russo, she was also preceded in death by her husband Norman R. Smith. She is survived by her three children Leonard Smith of Walnut Creek, Juliette (Tim) Cote of Walnut Creek and Yvonne (Jim) Wood of Brentwood, TN. Betty was a loving, devoted, and generous Nana to 4 grandchildren; Colette, Dominic, Angelo and Gianna. Betty graduated from Oakland Technical High School. She was an insurance underwriter before retiring, and a dedicated volunteer at the Walnut Creek Police Department, recognized for more than 20 years of service.

Betty was proud of her Italian heritage and had a love for dogs including her k9 grandchildren, Kona and Vito. The family is grateful for the long-term help and companionship she received from Maureen, and the loving care in her final months from Shiane, Emmilee and Favi.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9pm, Sunday, February 11 with a 7pm Rosary, at Hull’s Chapel in Walnut Creek. Funeral mass, Feb. 12, at 10am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Rd., Walnut Creek with burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
