Obituary for Catherine Damon

Catherine (Kay) Damon passed away at the Kensington Assisted Living Facility in Walnut Creek after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She touched many lives with her outgoing personality and beautiful smile. She was born in Masontown, PA, the eldest daughter of eight siblings. She loved to entertain. She was a fabulous cook and her home was spotless. She always dressed beautifully and made a stunning appearance. Kay married Stanley Janczura in 1942 and soon after, they moved to California. They had two children, Stanley Jr. and Donna. Tragically, she lost her husband and daughter way too soon. She worked at, and retired from, a printing company in San Francisco, Phillips Van Orden. She worked hard and had a lot of responsibility. She had many friends there and it was where she met her second husband, Harold Damon. They were married in 1970 and spent many happy years together in Rossmoor. Catherine volunteered at St. Anne’s Catholic Church until 2007, when she moved to The Kensington in Walnut Creek. The caregivers affectionately referred to her as “Kay-Kay”. She had a loving and playful spirit and will be missed by all. She always greeted the people who cared for her with a big smile and a twinkle in her eyes. Kay’s family was very important to her. She was a wonderful Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. Catherine is survived by her devoted son, Stan Janczura (Lori) of Walnut Creek, her grandchildren, Mark Janczura (Annette) of Fremont, Gary Janczura (Kimi) of Sparks, NV, her great grandchildren Zack and Rachel Janczura of Fremont. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Roppo of Dublin, CA and the following brothers and sisters in Pennsylvania: Beatrice Martin (Ron), Arthur Roppo (Vonnie), and Frank Roppo (Ginger). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Janczura, her daughter Donna Janczura, her second husband Harold Damon, her brother Nick Roppo (Rose) of Florida, and her sisters Anne Cardomone (Attillio) and Jean Burka (Mike) of Pennsylvania. A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family at a later date.
