Obituary for Barbara Martini

Barbara Joan Martini passed away peacefully on November 4, 2017 at the age of 91.

Born on April 25, 1926, in the Bronx, New York, Barbara was the daughter of two Sicilian immigrants, Salvatore & Mary Piazza. She was a resident of Walnut Creek for 53 years and a resident of Rossmoor for the past 18 years. After graduating from James Monroe High School in the Bronx, Barbara attended Columbia University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and a Master’s Degree in Education. After college, Barbara moved to Oakland and worked at the Colgate plant in Berkeley where she met her husband William (Bill) Martini. Together they had four boys. Survivors include her 4 sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and LeeAnn of Moraga, Timothy and Carmen of Lafayette, David and Cheryl of San Ramon, and John and Jami of Orinda; and her 10 grandchildren: Gina, Amy, Blake, Chad, Brooke, Bryan, Lauren, Priscilla, Josephina and Valentina. Barbara is also survived by her brother Frank DiPiazza and his wife, Pat, of Hayward. Barbara was preceded in death by William in 2007. The family would like to thank Barbara’s three loving and compassionate caregivers for the care they provided.

Barbara was an active parishioner of St. John Vianney Church in Walnut Creek. She was also a member of AAUW, The Rossmoor Antiques Club and the Rossmoor Italian American Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Rd., Walnut Creek, CA 94598, at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. A reception will follow immediately after Mass at St. John Vianney Church. Entombment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette, CA, will follow the reception.
